“I’ve always been curious about the ways we are influenced and shaped by the places we call home. I was raised in the South, but have lived most of my adult life in the Southwest. Both locations are unique, but have different cultures, vastly different scenery, wildlife, and light..
I feel a deep visual kinship with the open skies, the air, the dramatic horizon and the spiky, other worldly plants that inhabit the Southwest. But I also have an abiding belief that Southern roots run deep and are deeply embedded in my visual memory.
Both places seep into my work…in the colors and textures, the dense lushness or arid silhouettes. Both places have become a second skin that I gratefully inhabit.

ABOUT
“I feel like I am only myself when I am in my studio. Everywhere else I am someone else.”
Krista Harris is an expressionist painter whose work blurs the lines between abstraction and the natural world. Richly layered and nuanced surfaces keep images and ideas in the air, as if waiting to come into focus. Allusions to natural forms, hazy memories, and summer road trips, appear then slip away, only to reappear in new order. The works seem built from scratches and scars, subtle complexities, the sounds and scents of places , all designed to get under our skin. They seem almost recognizable, perhaps our own experiences , and suggestive of a location that is everywhere and nowhere at once.
The Colorado artist often begins her work by listening and observing the world around her, employing all her senses, alert for tension or balance, threads, patterns and possibilities. Her mixed media works on canvas and paper are both generous and gestural, which she states are “part art, part science experiment” , referencing her love of materials, and the unpredictability of process.

WORKSHOPS & ART COACHING
I began teaching workshops in non-objective painting over 10 years ago and quickly came to realize the benefits of connecting and working with other artists on a deeper level. Witnessing artists experience true breakthroughs in their practice, overcome blocks, and make significant progress in strengthening their work is the real reward for me.
Usually 4 to 5 days long, they offer an immersive learning experience for experimentation, growth, and deeply honest conversation. The schedule combines exercises, exploring materials and methods, demos and discussions. The afternoons are open for free painting each day, which allows you to apply what you have learned or to follow a new line of inquiry.
“Over the years, I've realized that teaching, for me, is connecting, cathartic, and deepens my respect for the amazing passion and serious pursuit that Art requires of us.”

TESTIMONIALS
“The workshop itself was rich with thought-provoking content, and there’s an energy that happens when you’re creating with a group of very dedicated artists—it’s hard to sleep at night! It was an invigorating, inspiring experience.”
~Jeanne S.
“Krista's Advanced Painting workshop was one of the best workshops I have ever attended. Krista is so knowledgeable about all the different aspects of the painting practice. She creates a beautiful flow to the workshop through discussion, exercises, painting, and mentoring. I had the space to explore, Bre's, and grow in my painting practice. I loved working with Krista. She is a talented painter and has a generous heart for Artists.”
~ Sheila A.
“I became more alert to the relationship between the mind, heart, and the canvas. In reflection, the value in care of language, both internal and external has shifted within me.”
~Wendy F
ART COACHING
In addition to workshops, I also offer one-on-one virtual Art Coaching and Mentoring.
My goal is to collaborate with artists to help motivate them, gain clarity around the direction of their work, focus on specific goals and instill confidence in their art practice.
Art coaching is ideal for those who cannot attend in person workshops as well as artists I have worked with in the past that want to keep going.
We will focus on clarifying your personal vision and growing your art practice through motivation, guidance, and personal feedback.
Sessions can be cover a variety of topics:, including critiques that are in-depth and examine what's working, possible directions for strengthening and developing the work, helping you identify and stay on track with your goals, or helping you build a cohesive body of work. They can also be just a few sessions that concentrate on a specific question or goal, such as an artist statement, upcoming exhibition and general portfolio review.

coaching TESTIMONIALS
“From the start, Krista was incredibly kind about my paintings (they were not pretty). She gently guided me, helping me to discover what matters to me. She wanted me to pay attention to my surroundings, study great artists and have an understanding of the materials I use.
We also discussed business – shows, galleries, the real struggles she has experienced first-hand. She’s been such an amazing mentor. Sometimes I call her my “Art Therapist”. I always feel that she has my best interests at heart and genuinely cares about my journey as an artist.”
~Linnie Hodge
“Working with Krista as my art coach for the past few years has been transformative. Krista takes the time to look closely and think deeply about the work. She offers broadly inspiring insights and avoids instructions that close you in rather than open you up. I was struggling when I started with Krista and now my work is attracting the attention of reputable galleries. Working with an art coach like Krista is not a substitute for putting in the work. If you are willing to do that, then, like a brilliant sherpa, Krista will help you discover your individual path to becoming the artist you wish to be.”
~ Linda G
“All art coaches should give good directions, act as a reliable, sounding board, share valuable experiences, and provide actionable feedback. All of which Krista does in spades. What makes Krista an invaluable art coach for me is her extraordinary level of empathy, her seemingly effortless, focused, listening, and genuinely passionate enthusiasm for my growth and success.
In art mentorship, there is always the practical aspects of skill and process to be addressed. What is rare is to find a coach and mentor who is an ambassador to the realms of creativity where magical possibilities reside. Krista fulfills this role for me with impeccability, grace, and care. It is not enough to be advised, an artist must be seen, and then guided beyond their imagined limitations. Being a person of great humility, Krista will resist the credit for continuing to mentor me into being the artist I have become. But the truth is, my artistic growth and success is quite simply all her fault.Krista is an art coaches coach. A master teacher leading you from two steps behind, so that you find the treasure first.”
